How far would you be willing to go to make your dream happen?

In my part II blog post, Waiting for Perfect, I mentioned my search for the perfect-fit Pilates teacher training program that would catapult my career to the next level. At the turn of 2024 I narrowed down what I was looking for:

An Accelerated Pilates Bridge Program for Certified Pilates Teachers who already had experience teaching.
An intermingle of teachers with advanced skills who could challenge me to keep up.
A Program that attracted teachers from other parts of the world.
A Program that went deep into the historical roots of Pilates.

I first discovered Inelia Garcia on Instagram (thanks algo) and became a follower, falling in love with her methodology that Pilates is so much more than the exercises by themselves. Inelia teaches Pilates as way of living - inspired by a connection to nature, spirituality, and the various intricate systems of our mental and physical being.

After spending time pinpointing how and where I could work with her, I managed to snag the last spot in her two part Contrology Program hosted by Vivian Piccone Jung at Authentic Method Pilates in Manhattan, New York.

Can I share a little secret with you? I didn't feel ready to enter into this program. In fact, it felt slightly out of reach. But I went for it anyway.

Absorbing years of experience and wisdom.

Have you ever had the feeling that you had to go somewhere, do that thing, start that course? That's exactly how I felt - I knew I needed to figure out a way to go to New York, even with tight resources and a little bit of excited nervousness that I might be in over my head.

The program was intensive, Inelia freely giving of her knowledge with passion and generosity. I felt inspired by her advocacy for preserving generational excellence in her values. She doesn't "do" Pilates. She lives and breathes Pilates.

One of the key takeaways was the importance of being in the presence of a community of people who spark inspiration in me to push past what I think I am capable of doing. I loved being exposed to a rich diversity of Pilates teachers from Poland, Switzerland, Russia, Thailand, and more! Each of us received deep attention and hands-on guidance that changed the way our bodies understood movement.
