Read below for some tips on creating your own studio space for mind-body-soul movement in the comfort of home.

01 - Start with What You Have
Before you begin to consider buying at random what you think you might need, first take a thorough assessment of what you currently own. A yoga mat? Hand weights? Theraband or yoga strap?

02 Decide Where You Will Practice
Take a look at each room before you decide where to set up. Picture yourself there - use this time as an opportunity to use quiet intuition and notice if a particular space really speaks to you. Perhaps you would feel best where there is natural light streaming in- or maybe privacy is a priority. You may also want to consider rearranging furniture or moving furniture to another room entirely to make space for your practice.
Do you need a portable setup that can be put away when not in use? Or will your setup take up permanent space?
Consider what color palette you would like to draw inspiration from. Do you prefer muted colors (I love lilac and cream), or something bolder? Aim for cohesive harmony within your existing home environment.
For virtual sessions, you'll need a place to put your phone or laptop or maybe even a tv hookup to view the instructor without straining your neck. I suggest getting a tripod or stand for your electronic device.
Once you've narrowed down your options, mimic a few exercises/poses in your potential space. How does the space feel?

03 Begin with the Basics

Your basics list will depend on the type of practice you intend to do at home.
For Pilates:
A good mat is my #1 recommendation to start with. They range greatly in price - the mats I have at my studio are classical mats made by Gratz Industries and Pilates Lineage.
For Yoga:
A good mat also applies here. There are many different options including eco-friendly mats.

Other things to consider
Think of your space as something that will evolve with carefully collected pieces over time and be patient with the process. Before buying a new item, always consider what you have first. As you develop your home practice, you will intuitively start to seek out more intentional items for the beautiful space you created.
For those of you joining me virtually, I'll provide you with a list of suggested props that you can also substitute with household items.
